CENTRAL FIELD BARN

This barn conversion for the burgeoning Martha’s Vineyard nonprofit Slough Farm Foundation embodies their forward-thinking values. Revamped livestock stalls were augmented by a new education and gathering space while the hay loft was converted into a tranquil maker space, seamlessly integrating farming and the arts under one roof. A new veranda and garden off of the multifunction space encourages learning to extend outdoors. Interior finishes and cabinetry are largely salvaged materials knit together to form an eclectic equilibrium. The oversized, low-slung roof is equipped with an expansive array of solar panels that significantly offsets the energy use of the foundation, a sustainability imperative on an island with limited access to energy sources.
