Renting this rustic Martha’s Vineyard cottage named Summertime had been an annual highlight of a Boston area family for years before they purchased it in 2021 to make it their own and equip it for year-round use. A new, full-height finished basement was added beneath the house to add more living space while a new screened porch lines the entire oceanside of the house to maximize outdoor living. The ground floor was reconfigured to streamline flow and give a more spacious feel to the spaces. A new laundry room is located directly by the front door to receive wet/sandy items from the nearby beach while the kitchen is placed alongside the new porch to facilitate outdoor dining. Upstairs, the primary suite was given a modern facelift while the secondary bedrooms took on a playful summer camp feel with a loft lounge and hanging chair.
